🔋 Battery Storage Without Solar Panels

Smart Energy. No Roof Needed.

Not every home can install solar panels — but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on energy savings or independence.

Whether you live in a terraced house, a property with shading from trees, or a listed home in a conservation area, a battery-only system gives you control over your energy bills and backup power without any panels on your roof.

⚡ How It Works

A smart battery automatically charges when electricity is cheapest and powers your home when rates rise — often cutting bills by 35–45%.

You can:
✅ Store low-cost energy from the grid overnight
✅ Power your home during peak times
✅ Protect against power cuts with full-home backup
✅ Add solar panels later if your situation changes

🧠 Perfect for All Types of Homes

  • Terraced or town houses with limited roof space

  • Properties shaded by trees, chimneys, or other buildings

  • Homes with complex or multi-pitch roofs

  • Listed buildings and conservation areas

You don’t need planning permission, scaffolding, or visible panels — just a compact, wall-mounted battery and smart management.

❓ Battery-Only Storage – Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I really have a home battery without solar panels?

Yes. A battery can work entirely on its own. It charges from the grid during cheap, off-peak hours and powers your home when rates are higher — saving money without generating solar electricity.

2. How much can I save with a battery-only system?

Typical households on smart tariffs such as Octopus Go, Intelligent Octopus, or EDF Go Electric can save 35–45% on electricity costs each year by storing cheap power overnight.

3. What happens during a power cut?

With systems such as the Tesla Powerwall 3 you get full home back up. With Fox ESS, or SolaX, you can add full-home back or EPS which is only a couple of small circuits (some lights, fridge}.

With a full home back up your lights and appliances stay on even when the grid goes down this is a switch that can be added to other battery combinations. Ask us.

With an EPS Emergency Power Supply its not a full home back up.

4. Is it worth installing a battery now if I might add solar later?

Absolutely. A battery-only setup is fully compatible with future solar panels. When you’re ready, your system can simply connect — no re-installation or wasted investment.

5. What size battery do I need?

It depends on your household’s energy use and tariff.
Most homes install between 5 kWh and 13 kWh of storage. However to make the most and of you want a full home back up then 10kW is the minimum. Tesla Power Wall 3 has 13kW as standard and you can connect up to 4 batteries.
RRD Energy will calculate the right capacity.

6. My home is shaded or in a conservation area — is this suitable?

Yes. Battery-only systems are ideal for:

  • Terraced or mid-terrace properties

  • Homes shaded by trees or neighbouring buildings

  • Complex or multi-pitch roofs

  • Listed and conservation-area properties where solar panels aren’t permitted

7. How long does installation take?

Most battery-only installs are completed in one day with minimal disruption. We handle all setup, testing, and app connection before we leave site.

8. What maintenance does it need?

Very little. Modern batteries are sealed, maintenance-free, and monitored remotely through the manufacturer app or RRD Energy’s support portal.

9. Are there grants or finance options available?

Battery-only systems qualify for 0% VAT and we have zero% flexible finance plans are available. We’ll confirm the latest offers during your quotation.
